About the UK Practical Driving Test

The UK Driving test is all about making sure that

people who pass are competent and safe in the

basic skills of driving. To pass the UK Driving Test

you must drive without:

Getting one serious or dangerous fault (Major).

Getting no more than 15 driving faults (Minor).

When you're in the test centre waiting room and your examiner greets you, he will need to see your relevant documents and will ask you to sign an insurance declaration to say that the car is insured for test use and a residence declaration to say you live at that address (if don’t sign, your test will be terminated).

When the examiner has checked your documents he will ask you to take him/her to your car (you keep your documents with you).

You will ask you to read a number plate from a randomly chosen vehicle at a distance of 20.5 metres, if you can’t read the plate correctly, your test will be terminated (well I wouldn’t get in a car with a blind driver).

When you get to your car the examiner will ask you 2 of the show me tell me questions. If you incorrectly answer 1 or both of the questions you will get 1 minor fault.

Next your examiner will ask you to get in the car and make yourself comfortable. He will walk round the car and take details of the make and model on his driving test report sheet. The examiner will also check to see if the vehicle is roadworthy. He will check for broken lights, the windscreen wipers are in place, the tyres comply with the legal requirements. Make sure the windscreen is clean and clear, and the 'L' plates are properly displayed. When the examiner is happy he will join you in the car.

He will then brief you, something along the lines "The test will last between 40 to 45 minutes, I'd like you to follow the road ahead at all times, unless otherwise directed by road signs or people of authority. I will give you directions in good time, I can repeat them if necessary", this gives you plenty of notice (I use the same terminology as your examiner will). If at anytime you forget or don't understand any of the directions given by the examiner ask! It’s not a map reading or navigation test.

During your test you will be expected to drive in various road situations, some of them will be at higher speeds possibly up to 70 Mph. You will also be asked to perform 2 of the reversing manoeuvres and you may also be asked to perform the Controlled (Emergency) Stop exercise. I'll provide you with the proper tuition so that you will be adequately prepared to do what is asked.
If you're good enough, you'll pass!

To book a practical test with a Call Centre Agent over the phone you will need:

a valid UK driving licence

a theory test certificate number

a valid debit or credit card for payment

Good luck!
